A.T.J.S. Presents:
Thrift Set Orchestra

Thrift Set Orchestra

Sunday, November 12, 2017
at Capital City

The Austin Traditional Jazz Society will feature the Thrift Set Orchestra on Sunday, November 12 from 2 to 5 pm at Cap City Comedy Club.  Thrift Set is one of the best traditional jazz bands in the Austin area, and one of the few of our sterling ensembles to rate an appearance at a major jazz festival.  Thrift Set had a very successful appearance at the 2015 Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival in Davenport, Iowa.

If you would like to hear the Thrift Set Orchestra, check out some of their Internet videos:

Thrift Set Orchestra is patterned after the small big bands of the Twenties and Thirties.  These ensembles rarely exceeded ten or eleven players, and in the Twenties the reed players often switched between sax and clarinet.  On November 12 Thrift Set Orchestra will consist of Lyon Graulty (saxophone and clarinet), Lauryn Gould (soprano and alto saxophone), David Jellema (cornet and clarinet), Mark Gonzales (trombone), Albanie Falletta (guitar), Westen Borghesi (banjo), Ryan Gould (string bass) and Paul Schlichting (drums).  Thrift Set has played for ATJS twice before to great acclaim.  This concert will be a notable Austin jazz event.

When: Sunday, November 12 from 2:00 to 5 p.m.  Doors open at 1:00 p.m.

Where: Cap City Comedy Club, 8120 Research Boulevard (intersection with Anderson Square) in North Austin.
