A Message from the
A.T.J.S. President

Dave Stoddard, President of A.T.J.S.

We live in extraordinary times. Not since the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918 have we seen such a curtailment of public activities.

This has affected the Austin Traditional Jazz Society as well. The recent ban on public gatherings in Central Texas has forced the cancellation of the April 19 concert by the Silver Creek Jazz Band.

At this time the ban lasts until May 1. Any extension of it will most likely take out the May 17 concert by La Grosse Tete. A final decision on that concert will be made at a later time.

Live jazz is currently not available in the Austin area. However, plenty of jazz-related media are available. My favorite jazz-themed movie, The Gig, is available on YouTube. Now might be a good time to try a jazz streaming service such as Radio Dismuke, or view videos of some of our area jazz bands on YouTube and Vimeo. Listings are available on our website. If you can't find these items, send an e-mail to info@atjs.org and we will send you some lists. Read some of our past newsletters (also available on the website) and try some of the recordings suggested in articles therein.

This difficult period will pass, and your Austin Traditional Jazz Society will get moving again as soon as the coast is clear.

Sincerely yours,

Dave Stoddard
A.T.J.S. President
